Integrated Speakers: The Bad News

Monitors or all-in-one computers like the Apple iMac that come with integrated speakers are the latest rage in desktop hardware. And, while integrated speakers might look stylish (and color coordinated with your computer), they do have some downsides. First, it may be difficult or impossible to upgrade integrated speakers--thus, if you decide you'd like better audio, you might be out of luck. Second, experts say it's always best to position your speakers according to your height and the distance you sit from your computer, but integrated speakers often come set at only one position--so you may not be hearing your computer's audio as well as you could. If audio is important to you, consider avoiding integrated speakers and investing in quality computer speakers that you can purchase separately.
