Using the "write these files to CD" feature, burned CD is ..

When burning a data CD using "write these files to CD" (in Windows XP,
service pack 2), it burns the disc but produces unreadable discs in that
computer or in any of several other computers I tried the burned disc in. I
tried this 4 times, with different files written to each of 4 discs and got
the same result each time.

I should point out that prior to this, I was having a problem where I could
not delete a folder of fonts that I had burned to a disc. I kept getting a
popup saying there were files to print to CD, but if I tried to delete the
temporary files, I could not do so. I was not granted access to them. I
tried to delete them directly from the "CD Burning" folder but could not. I
ultimately was able to move these files to another location and deleted them
from there. It is after doing this that the problem began where I cannot
read burned CDs using the "write files to CD" command in Windows Explorer.

How can I correct this problem?
