Post subject: windows xp backup

everytime i try to do the back-up it starts then stopes and says not enough
space. i am using a 160gb external hard drive. it says fat 32 will not allow
over 4 gb saved. anyone know how to change that volume allowed level?

Mr. Golfer,

The best solution is to convert the drive to NTFS. Here are the
instructions from Microsoft:

You can't. FAT32 to limited to a file size of 4GB. That's one of its
disadvantages. Convert or reformat the drive as NTFS.

Thanks so much! let me ask, if my main hard drive is a fat 32 and this
external is then set to the NTFS and i back up the fat 32 to it. can the ntfs
then restore the fat 32? I guess i am asking can files go back and forth
between a fat 32 and a NTFS? would you know? thanks chuck

Yes. No problem at all. Windows XP supports FAT12, FAT16, FAT32, and NTFS,
in any and all combinations. For exmaple, every time you copy a file from a
diskette to an NTFS hard drive (or vice-versa) you are doing that.
