Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windows>vista>mail (more info?)

I have a 5 month old Dell computer with Windows Vista, recently my windows
mail has been given me problems reading my mail and/or allowing me view mail
on any of my folders (it says no items in this folder) and i'm getting these
messages:
An unknown error has occurred. Protocol: SMTP, Port: 0, Secure(SSL): No,
Error Number: 0x800C0148

An unknown error has occurred. Account: 'POP3', Server:
'pop-server.si.rr.com', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Error
Number: 0x800C0148

Can someone please help me, i'm starting to loose it. Thanks

Your problem is most definitely caused by running a non-compatible
antivirus. Over time, some antivirus programs tend to cause corruption
in Windows Mail. The worst culprits are McAfee and Norton security
programs. Those will need to be uninstalled, NOT just disabled.

After uninstalling your non-compatible antivirus, download
and install a more compatible antivirus like:
AVG free edition:
http://free.grisoft.com/doc/5390/us/frt/0?prd=aff
or
Avast free edition:
http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html

With either of those, during the install phase you must select custom
install, and then deselect the email scanning option.
