who/where may I call? Or who/where may I email for valid Product Key for my
Vista Ultimate Upgrage?
In early December, I upgraded my new HP Slimline s3120n that came with Vista
Home Edition pre-installed. Since upgrading, I have attempted to activate my
Vista Ultimate several times only to have the Product Key rejected each time.
Up until yesterday, after each failed attempt to activate ovfer the past 5-6
weeks, the program nonetheless loaded and I was allowed to continue using my
computer, with the Ultimate Upgrade, without a problem.
However, yesterday, another balloon popped up requesting me to activate my
Ultimate Upgrade. This time, upon being rejected, I get an error code
00XC004F061 - 'unauthorized copy of Vista Ultimate' I am then directed to a
menu driven sight indicating I must purchase a new product key from
Microsoft!!! I bought my Upgrade at Staples early last Summer and paid
$259. Why am I being forced to purchased a prodcut key now?! BTW, I had
one heck of a time upgrading my Home Edition to begin with - I had to
reconfigure my HP two times before the upgrade 'took'.
I prefer a direct phone number (or email, chat) to Microsoft to resolve this
issue. BTW, I did perform a Clean Install as instructed on both Microsoft's
Forum and the back of the Vista Ultimate Upgrade box. I can scan either my
receipt or Staples statement and email as proof of purchase if needed. I
just need my computer up and running - I have work to do!

You can reset your Windows Vista activation by performing the following:
1. Click on the Start button and in the Start Search box type in: slui.exe 4
2. Press the Enter key on your keyboard.
3. Select your Country.
4. Follow the instructions for phone activation.
5. Once completed, restart your computer.

That will work, though you may end up feeling like a trained seal.
Honestly, I do not know why people put up with this sort of infuriating

trained seal.. NOW I know what you mean.. I just re-activated mine
(also Ultimate..) the guy where I purchased my computer (Velocity
Micro) explained to me that sometimes when you make any changes or
additions to the hardware Vista detects this, sends the info to MS and
they ask you to activate it again.. apparently when it detects new
hardware it's just checking it's still installed in the machine it was
originally installed in... and if it's not, then, well, it's not a
legitimate copy of Vista...
(in my case the new hardware was the card the cable co. put in the back
of the machine so I can get cable TV.. as small a piece of hardware as
that is...) |

This is exactly one of the biggest flaws. Trying to attach the OS to a
particular set of hardware, when the user has every right to change any
part of the computer out, including the motherboard (and a mobo by
itself is NOT a computer.) This is one of the biggest legitimate reasons
imho for using a clean windows activation remover so you never have to
deal with that part again - weather you're dealing with XP or Vista.
While I would never do it for a customer (unless asked explicitly, and
even then, never as an official job, but sometimes as a side job if it's
someone I know/have a good ties with and thye consider it a massive
favor.) |

Ding! And it suddenly all becomes crystal clear!
Now I know why you've been *itching about DRM in another post. You, and
others like you, are the very reason WHY functions such as DRM and
Activation exist, and why software prices have gone through the roof
lately.
So don't go complaining about anything Microsoft (or anyone else) adds
to the OS to try and curb piracy when your above statement clearly
states that you support piracy.

Oh good lord.
No, "people like me", who actually work in the real world with Vista and
other systems on a regular basis, who constantly have to deal with the
short comings of any system. It does nto help to try to shield people
from the truth as you and "people like you" are bent on doing.
You have it all backwards my friend. If the DRM wasn't there, or was
done in a much for fair manner, piracy would not be so high and people
would be more willing to go the legit route when they, as paying
customers, are not being treated like criminals. |

I'm not trying to shield anyone from anything, as everyone is entitled
to their own opinion, whether they agree with me or not. Maybe if I
rephrase myself:
The very reason why systems such as WGA and DRM exist is because of
people like you, who would condone piracy, in whatever form it takes.
You yourself said it:
>

Whether it's for a friend you trust or for mass-distribution on the
black market, whichever you look at it, it stays piracy. Pure and
simple. And for as long as people "do favours for their friends", then
systems like WGA and DRM will remain a part of the business.
Ironic. No-one complains about the copy-protection systems of the Games
discs?

As I've said before. DRM as never made me feel like a criminal. I don't
even realize its there. How much more fair can it get???
-Tell you what. The next time you invest a couple billion $ in a
project, I want to to make it dead easy for every Tom, Dick and Harry to
copy it (whatever it is) without your knowledge, eating into your
profits. Let's see what you say about the need for protection systems
like WGA and DRM.-

dzomlija you hooked a big one.
I've seen sarans other post and there is no-way in h e double tooth
picks this punks a tech of "any" kind.
He's a punk who could'nt figure out how to crack something and is
trolling to vent.
My advise. Let him rant till he gets tired and goes back to the
swingset.
And as far as DRM and Vista are concerned, its never been an issue
here. I do copy DRM DVDs with Vista for one reson only. When I pay $20
USD for a DVD for my very young children I want that DVD to last more
then 3 hours. I copy it and lock up the original for safe keeping and
let them have a party with the dup. When its fubar I copy it again. $1
USD fofr a blank is easier to replace then running to wal-mart
everyother day to replace a movie. Its refered to here as fair use.
Distribute? No! Backup? Yes!
Vista does not prevent this. And saran has bigger problems then DRM.
He just admited to breaking windows activation. With a crack or
whatever is a direct violation of the eula. If (and I truly doubt) hes a
"licensensed" tech. He could and should be stripped of his title and
sent to work digging ditches or flipping burgers. Alowed to come within
500 yards of a working computer? NO WAY!!

I was beginning to think I was alone in this conversation! Thanks for
backing me up ther, Joel!
The irony of it is, Saran denies being a pirate, despite is statements
of bypassing Vista activation.
I actually don't understand what all the fuss is about with regards to
DRM and all other forms of copy protection. People rant that software is
getting too expensive because of piracy, and that something must be done
about it. And when something is done, then they complain about it.
Oh well. Win some, lose some. But again, thanks for backing me.
