Post subject: setting up windows vista mail with a yahoo email address
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windows>vista>mail (more info?)

I am trying to set up my vista mail account with the yahoo pop account and I
followed the instructions but I get the followin Account:
'pop.mail.yahoo.com', Server: 'pop.mail.yahoo.com', Protocol: POP3, Server
Response: '-ERR invalid user/password', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server
Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC92g error.

It told me to use my yahoo log in and password and that is what I try to use
and I keep getting the same error message. Can someone help me?

If you want to use your Yahoo account under Windows Mail, you have to
either pay extra or install YPOPs:

http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mail/original/mailplus/pop/pop-35.html

http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mail/original/mailplus/pop/pop-08.html

I followed the download with ypops from your link, however I am still getting
the same error message. Is there a way to change it from 32 bit to 64 bit I
think that may be my issue. Is that a possibility?

To do that, you get a set of 64-bit Vista CDs and install 64-bit Vista
instead of your current 32-bit Vista. That will probably wipe out
everything you have saved, though, unless you have saved it
somewhere other than your main hard disk.

I don't want to do that. But it still doesn't work for me for some reason.
I keep getting that little screen with my login and it starts to authorize
but then it just pops back up and it doesn't take it. Thank you for your
help I do appreciate it.

Download YPOPs! and install on your computer. I did this last week and it
works with the Windows mail program.
Here is the website: http://ypopsemail.com/

You will have to name your incoming and outgoing mail servers "localhost".

Good luck!

I did do this and it still doesn't want to work for me so I guess I just need
to give up on it every working and move on.

Do you have the YPOP's icon in the lower right?

Are you talking about in the lower right hand side where all the small icons
are. If so then no I don't I have uninstalled and reinstalled ypop's and it
doesn't seem that anything has changed.

If that doesn't help, you may need to either pay extra or install YPOPs.

I had this same problem trying to configure my girlfriends mail
account. I then check her mail settings in Yahoo! and after going
into her Yahoo! Mail Account, I clicked on "Options", then selected
"Mail Options". This loaded a new screen with some new options, I
then selected "POP3 and Forwarding" and then clicked on the "Set up or
edit POP & Forwarding" hyperlink. On the POP Access and Forwarding
page I selected the radio button next to "Web & POP Access" and
clicked on the Save push button to update the account settings.

Windows Mail then loaded on Vista with no further errors.

I am not sure if your problem was similar to this.

yahoo.com accounts require you to either pay extra or install YPOPs
to connect using Windows Mail. Your message looks like she was
already paying enough for this.

I don't believe this also applies to all Yahoo accounts for countries other
than the US.
