Hello -
Is there a way to schedule defragmentation of my disks in Windows XP Pro?
for free
for example, I would like my defragmentation to be scheduled weekly at a
specific time.
I KNOW that there are programs or other defragmentation software that can be
purchased, but I would think that there is a way to do such a simple thing
for absolutely FREE.
Thanks - Kevin |

Take a look at these articles:
How to Automate Disk Defragmenter Using Task Scheduler Tool in
Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;555098
Schedule a Task to Defragment Drives
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/setup/learnmore/tips/gehrke1.mspx
Keep in mind that you'll need to use an account that has a
non-blank password in order to schedule tasks. Also, if your
computer is configured to go into standby, you'll have to right
click the icon for your defrag task in the Scheduled Tasks
folder, select Properties from the menu, click on the Settings
tab and put a check mark in the box next to "Wake the computer
to run this task".
Good luck

No you can't do it "for free". You can either do it for nothing, or the
software is free. there is no such phrase as "for free".

Since you're being picky, you might want to note that if the software is
free, you *can* do it for nothing. There's no "or" involved.

Also note that sentences normally begin with capital letters.

OK, I'll clarify. Is there a way to do this sort of automation with the given
tools that a Windows XP user already has without having to pay for someone
else to solve their problems for them.
