Post subject: How to restore the backed up images after changing the hardware?
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windowsxp>general (more info?)

Hi,all.

My previous installed CPU is AMD XP 2000 and the motherboard is the
corresponding motherboard, I have backuped my customerized images for the
system and installed application software previously. Now I changed the
hardware, CPU as INTEL CORE E420, and motherboard as 945GCT, Can I restore
the backuped images based on that platform (the harddisk is not changed)? If
I can , what can I do for it? And what are the steps? I really don't want to
re-install the windowsXP , the updates and all the application software any
more.

As I understand it you can restore the image to the HD but upon 1st reboot
you need to insert your XP CD and do a repair install to correct the driver
issues.
