Well - these are newsgroups. For the most part they are replicated
throughout the world to various servers and some of those servers may
archive the questions/answers indefinitely. No email address is necessary
to obtain your answer. You simply return to the newsgroup and read the
responses.

While some people *will* CC the answer to you - most will just reply to the
newsgroup.

Who wants all the spam just posting your real email address on a publically
distributed newsgroup can produce - when that address *will* be collected by
all sorts of bots and sold over and over and over?

When you post a question in the group, you should read answers in the
group, for at least three reasons:

(a) The answers you get may not all be correct. The public thread
will then give real experts a chance to post corrections to fake
experts.

(b) Other people may have the same question as you.

(c) The thread goes in the archives, so that people in the future can
find the answer without posting the same question.

Very few people in these newsgroups will send personal answers to your
E-mail address. I won't, for example.

When you post a question here, you should come back here to read the
answers. That's for a couple of reasons:

1. Answers are posted here, so they can be subject to peer review. If
someone sends you an incorrect answer by private E-mail, you may not
know it's incorrect. But if the incorrect answer is posted here,
someone else will likely know it's wrong, and will correct it.

2. Other people may have problems similar to yours, and may be
interested in reading the answers to your questions. Even if they
don't have the problem, there is often potentially useful information
in replies, and we can all learn by reading them.

You're posting to the newsgroup; you need to come back to the same group to
follow up and read any responses. Normally members don't email private
responses, since it is a public group, there's nothing to hide here.....

Anyway, the responses given would help others with the same problem rather
than 50 users posting the same/similar question, they can read your
question, determine that their problem is similar and look out for the
responses, and even contribute to the discussion of the issue.
