I have been having problems with my QuickPlay ever since I installed DviX and
AC3 on my computer. Everything seems to be working fine, but every now and
then, the player will freeze my computer. I have Vista Home Premium on an HP
compact pavilion computer. Any clues on what I should do?

Try adding the Xvid codec to your collection. Sometimes compatibility
between the various MPEG4 codecs is not up to scratch and you'll get
problems like you've experienced. An alternative is to install the FFDSHOW
filter which supports all those codecs and many more. It might do a better
job of rendering your videos.

I actually started with Xvid, and when the errors started happening, I came
on this website and read I should have Dvix. I'll keep the FFDSHOW in mind,
but I think I found the problem. I timed how long it took from the start of
the playback until the error happened, and discovered it was congruent with
my timed screen saver. I think there might be a conflict between the codecs
and the screen savers. I'm not sure, though, but I'll be sure to let you
know if it fixed the error. I turned off my screen saver and was able to go
an full half hour with no errors, and I'm going to try letting an hour long
program go in QuickPlay and see what happens.
