When attempting to use com port 1, get error that port is

I would use Device Manager to unistall the port:
1. Control Panel-System-Hardware Tab-Device Manager
2. Open the + nex to ports-Select Com1. Click the
uninstall button. Click Ok.
3. Close all windows and reboot the pc. It will reinstall
the port automatically. It should then be released from
what ever was using it. Cheers.

Com port issues - I have been attempting to install a USB to serial adapter but it keeps installing into COM 5. I am runnning XP Pro on a Compaq. Even though com 5 does in fact work I need a lower COM assignment due to the program's limitation. Thanks.
