looking at http://www.petri.co.il/pagefile_optimization.htm
and
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q197379/#appliesto

I thought maybe I would increase my pagefile size. However, I saw it was set
to Custom and not System Managed. I never did this. Is not default System
Managed?

I have not yet changed anything. So why is it set to custom on my computer?

I have 288meg ram. Please do not tell me to get more, I know it is small. My
Custom swap min is 432 meg which is less then "default" of 1.5 times ram.
Max is 814 meg. Still I keep looking at the pagefile and it never is
increased beyond the 432 meg. So That must be enough, even with only 288
ram.

Windows is a screwup and does things like that. Correct it. System Managed
is okay. You can also custom set the Pagefile to double the amount of your
RAM.

If your system was pre-installed by the vendor, there is a chance that it
could have been set that way from the very start.. I have seen this with the
computers of some of my clients..
