Post subject: network issue
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windowsxp>configuration_manage, others (more info?)

figure this one out...

environment:
2 xp pro boxes
1 has 3 connections (DSL, DSL modem, and NIC)
dsl ip is from isp
nic is set to 192.168.0.1 and setup for ics
running iis
other xp box uses internet through box 1

problem:
iis is configured to have web site on 192.168.0.1
it isn't for the web, only for things i work on at home
on that machine, if i try to access a page there, it tries to do it on
192.168.1.47 (ip of dsl modem)
first problem, where is dsl modem getting 192.168.1.47 from? i thought ics
would only give out address on 192.168.0.x
second, i can set the ip of the dsl modem manually to 192.168.0.2, but it
still tries to connect on 192.168.0.2 instead of .1
if i try to ping itself, it pings on the address of the dsl modem.
of course it works fine if the dsl is disconnected
if i add the name and ip to the hosts file (as .1) it still resolves on .2
