I did an in WinXP reinstall (installed over a previous install), then
a repair by booting from the WinXP CD, both necessitated by hardware
problems. Perhaps I didn't go about it the right way, but now I have
under D:\Documents and Settings (D: is the boot/Windows drive):
Administrator (don't use - has empty My Documents, Programs
\Accessories that has Notepad, Synchronize. Command Prompt, etc
shortcuts)
All users (that has all my programs, plus Windows Update, Set Program
Access and Defaults shortcuts)
All users.WINDOWS (that also has my programs, start menu, update, etc)
Default User (that has some ghosted folders as well as empty Startup
folder, Programs folder with a few Accessories, as well as Documents
and Settings\Default User\Start Menu\Programs\Startup that's empty,
Media Player and Remote Assistance shortcuts)
Default User.WINDOWS\My Documents (completely empty)
Owner\Owner's Documents (that is the original My Documents, with most
of my original data)
and finally...
tara*\My Documents, that's mostly empty, but used by some programs to
store data.
*my name
Can I get rid of some of these folders and redundancies? I'm
considered doing a HD reformat and complete reinstall, but that's a
hell of a lot of work and I have a stable WinXP, for the time being.
Thx. |

If it is working and you are no where near running out of hard disk drive
space - all you are trying to do is cleanup something that you most likely
wouldn't be going into very often anyway.
