Post subject: msinfo32/WMI Registry Permissions?
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windowsxp>help_and_support (more info?)

I've noticed that for some time msinfo2 was giving the
cannot-collect-information error and I've come to believe it is a
permission problem in the registry.

If I add the NetworkService user to the Administrators group, ie:

net localgroup administrators NetworkService /ADD

then msinfo32 collects all the info just fine.

Obviously, I wouldn't want to leave the NetworkService user in the admin
group, so what registry keys need NetworkService user permissions? I am
a tech myself and very capable of using the registry. I just need to
know what keys and what perms to give.

Thank you.
