When I look at my msconfig's start-up tab, one of the command paths is
followed by "-start" (without the quotes) and another command path is
followed by "-s". It was my understanding that all of the listed items are
run at start-up. What do these extra notations mean? Thanks.

Try running the programs with the -h or -? switch to see what they do.
