What a nice Dad you are! Unfortunately, at this point all I can tell you
is that it could be software or hardware. It is unlikely to be the
mouse or a "memory conflict".
Since you say "son" and I'm sure you're just a young sprout yourself
that means your son is probably a Young Person, start by doing the
normal scanning for viruses and malware:

If that solves the issue, you're done. If it doesn't, first look in
Event Viewer for clues. Start>Run>eventvwr.msc [enter]
Lockups can also be caused by hardware problems, and it doesn't matter
if the hardware is new. In fact, if hardware is going to fail it will
usually do so pretty quickly or go for years. Here are general hardware
