Running a Dell 4100 with 40G with %50 used after upgrade to XP Home in
November. 512 RAM, IE6, SP2. I have a Fax program Called Phone Tools. Belarc
says it is version 2.17. The last fax I sent was Decembr 10 and it worked
fine. Yesterday I tried to send a fax and when I opened the program a small
window located within the application indicated it was in the fax recieve
mode and that modem manager was disabled. When I tried to send a fax I got
the message the comunication port was not available. Ran modem helper and it
indicated the modem needed to be re-installed and the asked for the modem
helper disk from Dell. I did all that and it said wait it may take a few
minutes. After quite a while modem helper indicated it had installed drivers
for a Dell data modem. After that the program wouldn't open until I reverted
back to the Conexant HCF V90 56K RTAD Speakerphone PCI Modem. One time I got
a message the port may
not be enabled. Went through the device manager bit and evything was reported
as working properly. Also checked the phone lines. I have comcast so I don't
use the modem for any thing else. When I close the fax program a window opens
and says releasing modem??? I can find no modem manager on this computer.
I am using a Conexant HCF V90 56K RTAD Speakerphone PCI Modem. That came
with the computer. I went to Dell and downloaded the latest drivers for XP.
Keep getting various messages indicating the port is in use by another
applicaton.
