I have a IBM laptop(with windows XP), the screen is a bit small so I
connected it to a 19" monitor, but every time when I close the
laptop, the laptop goes into hibernate statu
How do I use the external monitor while my laptop is closed, I dont
want to have two same monitors on my desk

you have a 19" monitor connected to a laptop..........you close the lid and
the laptop goes to sleep.......you cant use the monitor...........for what??
the laptop is closed and you cant use that either.
If you have another computer that you are trying to use the monitor
with....disconnect it from the laptop

You should find that in the laptops BIOS settings you can disable the
hibernate when closed feature. Or right click on the desktop and cheack all
your power saving features in there, you may find that you can turn off the
hibernate when closed function there.
