An interesting experience

I had an interesting experience that I thought I should share with the
community. I have no idea whether this will effect anyone else, this is
just something that I experienced.

I am one of those millions who have almost no problems at all with
Vista. A couple of minor things, nothing big. Until recently. I ran a
routine scan with Spybot S&D and the result was the same as it always
is. One entry about a security issue with IE7.

"Malware can change the setting in Internet Explorer. If you have
other security software, make sure it is working correctly"

Then it would reference this reg key:


HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-3918218098-1390259975-1810127645-1000\Software\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\Main\FeatureControl\FEATURE_LOCALMACHINE_LOCKDOWN\iexplore.exe

I have ignored it in the past, but this time I decided to investigate
what it means. I wasn't able to fine much about it, but the consensus of
opinion on Usenet was that if my security software wanted to fix this, I
should let it. So I did.

Big mistake.

Suddenly, I was one of the group who couldn't make anything work right.
I couldn't download without Vista getting a tummy ache, and UAC went
ballistic every time I came into the same room with my keyboard. It
didn't take long for me to undo the reg change, and my machine started
smiling and humming a tune just like before.

I am wondering if an awful lot of other people are suffering from this
"Localmachine_Lockdown"? I hope some of you MVP'S do some investigating
and report to the group on this subject, if there is anything to it at
all. Like I said in the beginning, this was my experience only. Don't
know what it all means.
