Post subject: help.... Problem with extracting compressed installation files
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windowsxp>general (more info?)

Hi fellow XP users,
I've a problem running application installation files which comes in the
form of .exe and will first extract it's files to a temp folder. The programs
usually exited abruptly with error msgs in various forms but all are related
to "the files cannot be unpacked/extracted" etc....

I tried the same file on other PCs and it works.

System: Windows XP Pro Ver 2002 with SP2.

This is a newly reinstalled windows XP, my previous installation crashed
recently.

Thanks a million!

Unless there is the Windows Installer involved, all of these installers
are third-party. Find out what installer (eg. InstallShield, WISE) creates
that messages and BTW, cleaning the temp directory prior to any install
is always a good idea.
