For some reason I am in a Group Policy firewall. I would like to get off of
this but clicking on firewall setting in windows, does not allow me to submit
my request because it is in gray format. Would this disappear if I use
another server? Please guide me to get rid of "security , some setting are
controlled by group policy"

you would need administrator level to make those changes, as it appears you
have some group policies in effect.
check group policies in admin tools in control panel
