Post subject: Cannot connect to my home computer from work
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windowsxp>work_remotely (more info?)

I have set up remote desktop on my home computer and I connect to it using
its IP address from everywhere except from work. I get temporary IP addresses
from my ISP (I mean IP address is changed from while to while), but at one
time I can connect from my friend's computer ,but not from work . I guess we
are behind ISA server at work and it does not let me use IP address in my
internet explorer to access my computer at home. I am just wondering if there
is a way I can connect from work to home.

Home Computer:
Windows XP with SP2 ,romte desktop is enabled , router is setup to forward
remote connection to my computer, firewall is set up properly

Work computer:
Windows XP , I coonect to my computer using http://XX.XX.XX.XX:55/tswb , as
I said it works from everytwhere except from work.

Thanks for your time

More than likely your work network administrators are blocking ports
outgoing to preclude this type of activity. Contact your work network
administrators for help. Note there may be company policies against
connecting an untrusted system (your home PC) to a trusted system (your
office network).

Guys,

Thanks for your excellent responses. I really appreciate your time. I will
create my account at no-ip and I will see how it goes.

Thanks again

Try http://www.no-ip.com/ so you don't have to use an ip address.

Has nothing to do with your service provider - the service you were pointed
to is a free service to give you a domain name to use that automatically
tracks your IP for you.. So you only have to remember, for example,
fariba.no-ip.com instead of some random IP address.

You need to speak with those at work to see what is blocked.
It is not uncommon for them to do such things.

Rogers is an ISP. No-IP provides a Dynamic DNS service.

This means that you register at No-IP (free) and install the client software
(free, it's all free) on your PC at home. When your IP address at home
changes the software updates mydomain.no-ip.info with the new IP address.
Now when you want to remote to your PC at home you can use
mydomain.no-ip.info, instead of http://XX.XX.XX.XX:55/tswb.

I agree with Al Jarvi though, have a chat with the IT people.

Lardy.
