Post subject: Name of computer keeps changing
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windowsxp>help_and_support (more info?)

I am the administer for my PC, which also has one other non-administer user.
In User Accounts, I choose a name for my computer. I selected Apply. When I
turn off my PC and then turn it on the next day, the message at the bottom
left of the logon screen reads "Click to turn off computer" instead of the
name of the computer that I have selected.

Can anyone tell me why the default computer name, i.e., "computer" keeps
showing up instead of the name that I selected?

Thanks.

This seems normal on all my PCs (office and home ones.) It seem that at the
start-up, the "login" Welcome screen has not read the computer name you
assigned to it. If you were to just do a "logout" from your account, instead
of Shutdown, you should see the correct name appear.
