Hello all,

I have 4 desktops, and one wireless laptop on a Dlink DIR625 through a
cable modem.

Most of the time, things are so so. However, too much of the time the
Vista desktop machine (others are XP) ias terminally slow when downloading
anything.

EXAMPLE: Two XPs may be accessing the 'net (the student wireless is
probably P2P'ing) and are doing fine, but the Vista, well - click to go to
Google and the green loading status bar drags along, Then wham, it pops
open. It's as if it makes the call - gets in line, waits it turn and gets
access. The same for every page load. The Vista machine is not slow, just
the Internet.

I can send a XP nachine to download a file from say downloads.com, and the
Vista, at the same time, and the P gets it faster.

Is there a tool that let's the Vista Admin monitor and set transfer rates
for comps on the LAN? So the Admin can say OK kids, if your not download
hoemwork, your down speeds will be 25Kbs or so?

Open a command line on the Vista box and type the command "ping
www.google.com -t" without the quotes, and press enter.

Let it run for five minutes or so, and press Ctrl + C. Tell us how many
lost packets you have, and the average latency.

Do the same on the XP box.
