I just bought an external hard drive. I backed up all my files, but
when I see them in the ext hard drive, the folders have funny
different names (part 1, part 2, part 3....... Is this normal?

Thanks

Guess it depends on with what dis you backup the data with...
For xp,the best method is to install xp cd,locate & start File Transfer
Wizard, select the data for it to save, save to new folder you created, once
its thru,R.click the folder, compress or zip, then move to cd or hd.Also,to
extract, run the FTW from the xp cd,dont use the one in tools. Also, set
pc as "old computer" when saving the data.

Review the instructions for the software you used to do the "backup".
