No audio device

I'd recommend getting an inexpensive sound card. Take the cover off your
computer and hopefully you'll see an empty white slot or two that it'll
fit into. Remove the slot cover on the back corresponding to it and plug
it in. One screw is all it takes to hold it.
Windows will most likely recognize the card and install the drivers. If
it doesn't, then there will be a CD that came with the card that will
install it.
You should go into the system BIOS utility and turn off the onboard
sound. BIOS utilities differ so I can't tell you exactly where to find
it, but if you look around, you'll find it.
The new card will most likely work whether or not you turn off the
onboard one.
Only eMachine support would know how to get the onboard one working and I
imagine installing another one would be easier than the hassle of trying
to get anything out of them.

Sadly, SP2 includes updated drivers. Try a roll-back via the Device
Manager.
