Dear Jane
I tried this.....'A temporary profile is loaded after you log on to a
Windows Vista-based system' (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947242)
it wouldn't allow me to delete the file I was instructed to delete
I hate when they idiot proof something to the point that it starts to
sabotage your efforts

yep.............EVERYTHING I do requires me to enter in my ADMIN
password which is what it won't accept, I started in SAFE mode but
didn't really know what to do to fix anything when I got into SAFE mode,
I messed with a couple of things but it didn't help. I can't even add a
new user because the admin user (ME) has to authorize it. I am out of
ideas.............. even called GEEK SQUAD and they want a mere $300
bucks for a fix..... so OH MIGHTY BRINK what am I gonna do?

Robin,
See if doing a System Restore, using Method Two in this tutorial below,
with a restore point dated before you had this problem can fix it for
you.
http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/76905-system-restore-how.html
Hope this helps,

Seriously..........EVERYTHING I do asks for the admin password which is
NOT accepted......... (I tried that "fix" too). I have tried them all.
Won't even let me create a new user cuz the freakin admin has to
authorize it with the password. ANd of course it won't allow me to
change the password........ any more ideas for a VISTA victim.

Robin,
Did you use Method Two from boot with the System Restore? It does not
require you to enter a password since it is at boot.

That's strange, it shouldn't if you booted from the DVD.
Well, other than a clean reinstall, you can do a Repair (upgrade)
install to try and fix the problem.
http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/88236-repair-install-vista.html
Hope this helps,
Shawn

A temporary profile is loaded after you log on to a Windows Vista-based
system:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947242
Do you have another administrator-level account that you can log on with?

Looks like you've lost administrative control. Reinstall Vista. When you set
up Vista again, write down the administrator password that you use to
establish the administrator acount. Create a standard user account and use
that standard user account for your everyday use. If a program or operation
asks for administrator password while you are in standard user account, use
the password that you established during reinstall.
Lastly, stay away from Geek Squad. 5% of Geek Squad is competent. The rest
are not.
Best of luck...

Well, since nothing seems to work for you Robin, I would say there is
nothing to do but a clean reinstall.
