Post subject: adding new programs to other user accounts
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windowsxp>customize (more info?)

I've just bought XP home edition. Set up my daughter's
(limited) and my own (admin/owner) accounts. Initially,
the programs that I wanted her to have access to and use
are on her account. My problem is adding NEW
software/games/programs and allowing her to use them.
EX: added MusicMatch player while on my account- but it
does not show up nor can i use it on her account. Same
issue with Sims game and Plus! for winxp. When I try to
copy or move the files/folders to either hers or 'shared
documents'..i get an error message and then the program
does not work.
How can I install/set up new stuff so that she and I both
can use them? How do I change that back if I decide that
she does not need to use?
Thank you much Smile

Copy the shortcut from your profile (Documents and Settings\<username>\Start
Menu\Programs) to the All Users Profile (Documents and Settings\All
Users\Start Menu\Programs). Note: Some applications will still not run on
a limited user account.

I had the SAME problem, and the above solution would not work for many
of the games. Heres the solution I used:
For any program or game you want to be SURE both profiles can use,
first install under YOUR profile. Then change limited profile to
"administer" and install AGAIN to same directory (this takes no more
drive space to do), when finished.....revert account back to limited.

I know it's a pain in the a** to install programs/games
twice........... but it takes no more space, and you can be SURE each
can run the program/game. And the time it takes to install a second
time is nothing compared to the time you'll spend trying to get it to
work if you don't..........
