Post subject: XP oem license question
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windowsxp>basics, others (more info?)

I have a number of dell PCs that we have been using that have been reimaged
with our Volume License key.
I am going to be donating these to a school, and need to wipe them. How can
I reuse the oem key that is on a sticker on the case of the PC. I do not
have the old media from when these where purchased. Can I just use any
installation media and then just change the product key to match the sticker
on the case? What are my options?

Thanks,

Mike

You need to use an OEM version of XP that matches the original i.e. XP Home
version. You might be able to get one from Dell at a very nominal charge or
if you know someone who has a similar system borrow their CD and use your
Key.

That should work as long as the "any old media" is the same version as
goes with the key, OEM XP Pro or Home.

You would need to contact Dell support and request
a Dell Windows XP Reinstallation CD for each Dell PC.
