XP Media Center Edition ??

Media Center is the same as XP Professional, plus additional media features,
and minus the ability to join a domain.

Other than that lack of ability to join a domain, nothing is missing.

And MS doesn't provide support for it, not that MS support is worth
anything to begin with.

I don't know why Kurttrail said there was no support for it unless he
meant that since Media Center comes only preinstalled on Media Center
hardware by OEM's (HP, Dell, etc.) the support for the computer itself
must come from the OEM. An XP Media Center pc gets its Windows Updates
just like all the other XP editions.

Patches aren't support. And having the OEM support MC only gives them
the excuse to blame MS for all incompatibilities.

like display adaptors and tv cards, and it needs a fast machine too....

OEM editions of Windows receive all patches, hotfixes, service packs, and
optional downloads from Microsoft Update. In that respect there is no
difference between OEM and retail editions of Windows products. MCE is an
OEM edition of Windows (as is XP Pro x64) because of device and device
driver dependencies that Microsoft believes can only be addressed properly
by system builders. Not every PC is capable of handling things like tv
tuner cards, etc.

XPMC only comes in the OEM variety, which the OEM must provide support
for, not MS.
