Post subject: Can an XP HD be read by Vista?
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windows>vista>hardware_devices (more info?)

Hello,
Hi have receently ordered a new system that will be running Vista Home
Premium.
My very old system is running XP Home. A couple of years back I added a
second HD to the old system and have been using it as a Back-up Drive.

So my question is - will the new XP system be able to use/read the data on
the Old XP HD if I install it on the new system? Most of the data on the Old
HD is /are Word Docs, Photos (Photoshop 3.0), Music, - nothng really esoteric.

Thanks for any input.

Cordially,
Don

Hi,

Yes, Vista has no problem reading either NTFS or FAT/FAT32 formatted drives
created by previous versions of Windows (not just XP, but pretty much any of
them).
