All my Word files are now Wordpad files... Help!

Out of the blue, all my Microsoft Word files now have a Wordpad icon on them,
and all the Word formatting is gone. When I save a Word file, it saves it as
a Wordpad file... What is going on??? Any ideas out there?

and also watch what file format you are saving in word..
