I have loaded sp2 for windows xp. Now there is no mixer available.
How do I get it back. Also I cannot restore the system past the date
that sp2 was installed.

You should be able to UNINSTALL SP2 - do not depend on System Restore for
this. Control Panel --> Add or Remove Programs should be your first choice
*if* you think you need to remove a program *you* installed. More than
likely the System Restore for SP2 took up so much space - it erased all
previous restore points.

In any case - have you just gone to the manufacturer's web page (for the
sound device) and downloaded/installed the latest hardware drivers for the
hardware in question? You will want to do this for your motherboard chipset
first, then video, sound, network card...

I'd first try a Repair Install. That just recopies all the files you need
to the drive. If no help, I'd then try reinstalling SP2.
Have you followed ALL of microsoft's advice on their site for installing
SP2? If not, have a look at it. It's important.

Most likely by getting the installation correct.

That's because it would be bringing back files that are not necessarily
compatible with SP2. It's normal.

You could also try uninstalling SP2 and reinstall it again. That might be
the easiest route.
Is there any chance the mixer you're talking about is NOT a Microsoft
mixer? You might need to reinstall that, and/or you might need updated
drivers for your sound card. Check the mfg web site for driver updates:
Don't get them from anywhere else.
