I have a Shuttle SB81P PC running Windows XP SP2 and all current updates.
The system has a single Pioneer DVD writer, 1GB memory (2 x 512MB) and a
Geforce 6800 PCIe graphics cards. I am using the on-board audio, ethernet,
USB and FireWire.
The problem is when I connect a Canopus ADVC-55 (Firewire digital video
converter) to the system, Windows recognises it (ding dong sound), starts to
install the drivers, but then says that there was a problem and that the
device may not work properly. I go into device manager and it’s listed as an
‘AVC Compliant DV Tape Recorder/Player’ under imaging devices with a yellow
exclamation mark next to it. When bring up its properties it says that there
was a problem installing the driver and that it may be corrupt (error 39).
The ADVC-55 is a bus powered device and it is getting power, but it doesn’t
install correctly. I have tried a ADVC-100 which isn’t bus powered, an
external Firewire hard drive and they all have the same problem. I have
tried re-installing SP2, updating all my drivers including the chipset,
disabled XP’s firewall, disabled AVG anti virus, un-installed Alcohol 120% in
case the virtual drive it loads may be conflicting and also installed a Pyro
PCI 64 PCI firewire adapter, but as yet nothing has worked.
Any one have any ideas as this is starting to become very frustrating? I
think its software related as i have tried the devices on other systems
without a problem, but I just don’t know how to fix it.
Thanks
Chris
