Unless the C: drive, where WinME's boot files must reside, is FAT32,
you can't do it this way. You'll need a 3rd party boot manager.

How did you install this dual boot setup, in what order did you install
the operating systems? Does the Windows XP on "C:" boot properly? How
did you end up with that incorect boot.ini file, did you manually add
lines to it? If you leave the computer countdown run to zero when you
boot, or if you chose option 1 (Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition) does
Windows XP Home Boot? Do you have Windows ME startup diskette?

I dont understand it. Windows XP home edition is on C: and Windows ME is in
D:. Before it is

You didn't answer my questions! I can't help you if you don't give me
the information I asked for. Drive letter assignements (C:, D: and so
on) can be misleading. Please provide the information needed to
troubleshoot:

1- How did you install and setup this dual boot system, in what order
did you install the operating systems? Are these on 2 different
partitions on the same hard drive? On 2 different hard drives?

2- Does the Windows XP Home boot properly on the default countdown or
on line line:
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home
Edition

3- How did you end up with the line:
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINME="Microsoft Windows ME Home
in the boot.in file, did you put that in there yourself? Windows ME
does NOT boot off a multi()disk()rdisk()partition() syntax.

1) 2 Hard Drive in ONE hard drive. same hdd. I am use laptop.

2)yes default multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows
XP Home Edition

3)I did copy multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows
XP Home Edition then edit partition to (1) and WINME. it was "Windows" but i
change folder name is WINME in D:\.

OK, so your Windows XP boots properly from partition 2, I take it you
had Windows ME already installed and running properly on partition 1,
then you installed Windows XP? And then you could no longer boot
Windows ME?

Edit the boot.ini file and add this line:

C:\ = "Microsoft DOS Windows ME"

Now the file will look like this:

boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home
Edition" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect
C:\ = "Microsoft DOS Windows ME"

Can you boot Windows ME with that? If it doesn't boot you will need
your Windows XP cd and quite possibly a diskette drive. Do you have
those? Does the laptop have a diskette drive? Do you have a Windows ME cd?

Oh it not work. i put C:\ = "Microsoft DOS Windows ME" but when i enter then
my computer was shut down that all. So i enter Windows XP, But i want to run
Windows ME. Not xp. Win xp is in C: and Win ME is in D:. There no Windows ME
file in C:. All windows ME file is in D:. I did restore windows ME in D:.

I have Windows XP cd, and Window ME cd too. But when i install Windows ME but
it say "Cannot install because your computer is not HP. My laptop is Dell.
But windows ME is still in my laptop D:\.

Ok, I don't think you need Windows ME either. If XP runs well you could
get rid of Windows ME.
