Post subject: Windows XP Home - Tlephony service error
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windowsxp>configuration_manage (more info?)

Hello all,

Just looking for some tips ona windows xp home installation I am trying to
fix.
I am looking in services, and have discovered the Telephony service is not
running - it is set to automatic, but does not run when windows starts. I try
and start it manually, and am presented with the error:

"Could not start the Telephony service on Local Computer.

Error 2: The system cannot find the file specified"

I nnoticed at first the Path was set to "C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exd -k
netsvcs" I changed the path in the registry so it points to svchost.exE
instead of .exD. I stil cannot get the service to run - automatic or
otherwise.

Pulling my hair out here - any suggestions?

It's a customer's computer and I need this service to run so I can get
dial-up to work.

Any ideas greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi Bender,

Make sure that the following file is present in Windows\System32 folder.

tapisrv.dll

If it's missing, then expand a new copy from the source.
