Post subject: Windows XP Animated Cursor Problem...
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windowsxp>customize (more info?)

I have a problem that I hope someone can help with. I have XP Pro w/
SP2, I recently installed XP Plus! and have chosen to use the Windows
Theme Plus! Aquarium. I then decided to change the theme a little bit
(different sounds, cursors, wallpaper). I saved this new theme, but
now when I bootup my computer the animated cursors stop working.
Everything else seems to be OK, except for the animated cursors. I
can go thru Control Panel and select a new theme and the animated
cursors start working again. I can then choose my new saved theme and
the animated cursors work normally. Once I shut down and boot back up
I run into the same problem, the animated cursors don't "animate".
Can anyone please help, I've checked all the Microsoft FAQ's and have
found nothing. TIA....

Braveheart,
It is possible that one of the animated cursors is corrupted. I had
this happen
once.. The way to figure it out is to start from scratch with your scheme
and load
them ONE at a time until you come to the culprit. Then if it is a corrupted
one, you
will know it... I have also had that happen with sound files in THEME
setups.. They
just don't want to load if they are messed up.
HTH,

Thanks Burt,
I reloaded my cursors, one at a time, and they work fine. After I shut
down the computer and restarted, my animated cursors didn't animate. They
seem to be stuck on the first frame. I used Axialis AX-Cursors 4.5 to
create my cursors and I don't see anything wrong with them. I decided to
reload the original XP Plus! Aquarium Theme along with the Aquarium's
original cursors. Of course, they worked, but when I shut down the computer
and restarted the original Aquarium cursors didn't animate. I then chose to
load the Plus! DaVinci theme and cursors. The animated cursors worked, but
after I shut down and restarted the DaVinci cursors no longer animated. It
seems to be a problem when I start up my computer, I don't know whether it
is something in my Registry or something else altogether. I have checked
the Microsoft FAQ's and haven't had much luck. My cursors were working at
startup time when I loaded XP Plus!, about 2 months ago, but I must have
done something when I was creating my own cursors and theme. Thanks for
your suggestions.

Braveheart.....
