Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windowsxp>security_admin (more info?)

When I click on windows update, it tells me it is installting the activex
control to check what version of the software I am running, then it just
fails.

I have turn the security to low and enabled all activex items in internet

I have also added the site to the trusted site and lowered the security to
the lowest I can find, enabling all activex controls.

At one point I was able to get to the "express or custom" option, but when I
would press custom, it would error out again.

the windowsupdate.log fiel I grabbed is huge (over 1 MB) so I won't post
anythign form it unless requested)
