Just re-imaged my home PC and a Windows update that I've been
avoiding all year slipped through.
Something like "Windows Genuine Advantage something-or-other"
Just the name sounds ominous to me - practically pegs my BS
meter.
Am I worrying over nothing?
Can anybody elucidate?

You don't need to worry if you have a legal version of XP. I have never had
a problem with the Genuine Advantage updates myself. It just checks to be
sure you have a legal version of windows.

Per neil:

That's kinda what I figured.
Anybody know how to kill it?
I don't know if my version of windows is legal or not. I layed
out a grand or so for the MSN developer discs and it came from
one of them - but there's been a lot of water over the dam since
then.

False positives with WGA are a known fact that even Microsoft admits is
true. Why do you lie or are you just ignorant of the facts?

Per GMAN:

Refer to my prior post about MSDN... I guess I'll find out soon
enough.
