Volume Control Icon Keeps Dissapearing

Hi,

Everytime I shut down, then start up XP again, the volume control icon
dissapears from the system tray even though the "Place volume icon in task
bar" is always checked. I have to uncheck it, select apply, then check it
again and hit apply.

Any ideas how to fix this?
