In Vista Windows Explorer under Documents, most folders have the basic tan
folder icon and are manipulated like folders in XP's My Documents--no horsey
issues with permissions, etc. However, the following listed folders have
different icons from the others in Documents, are not in the alphabetical
order of the Documents and are not by default open to changes from the
non-administrative user: "Music, Links, Pictures, Searches, Videos, My Data
Sources". What is going on here? Why aren't these folders just Documents
belonging to the user (My Documents in XP)? The age-old question: What was
Microsoft's thinking in setting up Documents as analogous to My Documents in
XP, except for the above folders listed? Surely there are reasons. Right?

You really have to ask Microsoft. But I find the Vista way a lot more
convenient. In XP it was a mess.
