I am finding that this otherwise excellent Media Player won't play
pre-recorded DVDs without lots of "noise" - it looks like the
"protection" kicking in - anyone know if there is an easy way to
overcome this?

Thanks in advance

Try running the film thru WM encoder 9 series first.

More details, please. I play all videos in the "den" via a PC
using VLC-MP v0.8.4a (wxWidgets interface) - be they
commercially pressed DVDs or TV-captures. None exhibits any
peculiarity. Of course our choices in DVD video entertainment
may differ (likely), but the protection schemes used vary?
(unlikely)

I removed VLC-MP v0.8.5 and reinstalled v0.8.4a after
discovering that VLC had changed the scaling technique used for
letterbox - it may not have been the only problem with that
release.
