IBM Netvista, latest BIOS, XP-P with latest patches/updates. Symptoms
appear on SP2 as well as SP3.

All of a sudden I lost my USB Ports on the computer. I think it happened
because of a power failure, but not sure. I hear the pacifier beep in the
speaker when connecting my mouse or thumb drive, however, neither responds.
the mouse LED lights, but cursor remains in the middle of the screen. I
don't have a USB keyboard so I can't test the USB connection during BOOT. I
suspect it will work. The mouse will not be recognized until the OS loads.
The thumb drive makes the same beep, but I never see it displayed as a
removable drive or any drive for that matter. The PS2 mouse works just
fine. Using a USB to PS2 adaptor does not work either.

Any ideas?? I'm stumpbed on this one. The MSKB isn't of any help so far.

Thanks

Hi,

Have a read here:

Note the solution to unplug the power cord. I would try this first as
it's the easiest, then the other solution if that doesn't work.

Bill, the first thing I would try is rt clicking MyComputer>select
Properties>Hardware>Device Manager>USB Controllers. rt click on each one
and choose
Uninstall. When all are uninstalled restart and let XP reinstall them.
