Hello,
I recently downloaded TweakUI and ran it on my laptop. It seemed to function
as advertised until I realized it took control of my touchpad. I prefer the
functions of my Synaptics driver over the TweakUI/microsoft driver and had to
re-install that driver. Can I use TweakUI and disable it's mouse options?
Thanks for your time.

TweakUI has no 'mouse driver'. It simply sets the registry settings that
you tell it to.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I'm not that familiar with changing my
registry but would like to learn more about these things. I realize I can
cause serious heartache if I get something wrong in my registry - so I'll do
so cautiously. What property in my registry would I need to change and how
would I need to change it to use TweakUI and still use my Synaptics mouse
controls.

Alec,
Thanks for getting back to me.
Before using TweakUI the "Mouse" link in my control panel brought up a
Synaptics touchpad options box. After installing TweakUI the "Mouse" link in
the control panel would respond with a message saying it could not find the
Synaptics driver. Also after installing TweakUI the only mouse options box I
could get to seemed to be a generic Windows driver box. Also - the touchpad
on my Dell laptop has an area in the horizontal and vertical edges that
function like wheels allowing for faster scrolling. These were disabled when
I installed TweakUI.
The bottom line is that I seemed to lose the Synaptics features of my
touchpad and they were replaced with generic Windows functions.
Thanks for your help.
- CJ

BTW - Thanks for including the "How To Ask Questions The Smart Way" FAQ at
the bottom of your signature... It was most instructive to this newbie.

I’ve just had my Inspiron 6400 for a couple of weeks, I experienced
the same thing. Found you on a search for the problem and hadn’t
realized that it was probably TweakUi that did it! Probably you are
right. I have only gotten the Touchpad back with reinstalling the
drivers but can’t get that very useful Options box that allowed the
vert/horiz scrolling and the 4 "hot spots" on the touchpad corners.
Anyway, am still searching and hate to System Restore back that far,
it may bring all that bloatware back!...... Will post here if I have
any luck

Cheers

Zhenya
