Windows XP taskbar has suddenly appeared vertically on the
right side of desktop, instead of horizontally on the
bottom as it has always been. Clicking and dragging does
not move it back. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Try right clicking on the taskbar and unlock it.. then drag it back to the
base of the screen..
