Help! I've set up the sounds for various events like
startup, shutdown, etc., but when those events happen,
instead of playing the sound, there's either nothing or
an annoying, sharp "beep" in place of the appropriate
sound. All the other audio sounds fine, Winamp plays,
WMP works, etc. I can't figure it out.

Hi Brian,

This will correct it:

Fix the Ding.wav File (Line 6)
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

To use the Regedit: Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it
and answer yes to the import prompt. REG files can be viewed in Notepad by
right clicking on the file and selecting Edit.

More information if needed:

Where did my sounds go?

>Hi Brian,
If some of the sound events are so faint as to be barely
heard, it is possible to adjust the volume by using the
Sound Recorder in Programs (Accessories - Entertainment -
Sound Recorder). Existing sounds can be modified or
changed completely, also.
Under one user account, I was unable to change the default
Windows sounds. By using the Sound Recorder, I was able
to set the sound event of my choice. What is most
important about what I did was what I did not do; I did
not change the file names. I just added other sounds on
top of the existing ones.
