My Dell computer, running XP, has stated (in the last few days) to take an
exceedingly long time (e.g. 20 to 30 minutes) to shut down. I have had the
system since last summer, and up until now have no shut down problems.
I have these messages on the computer’s error log:
The server {F3A614DC-ABE0-11D2-A441-00C04 F795683} did not register with
DCOM within the required timeout.
Hanging application GIANTAntiSpywareUpdater.exe, version 1.0.0.501, hang
module hungapp, version 0.0.0.0, hang address 0x00000000.
Fault bucket 123256939.
What problems do I have and what should I do?
I have researched previous messages for an answer to this problem. But I
cannot find an easy solution. I use Norton Internet Security and Microsoft
AntiSpyware (run them daily) and have just recently started using DSL about a
month ago. I was using dial up.

Hi ... Would you say your problems started happening roughly after using
Microsoft (beta)Anti-spyware removal program ?? If so . Try uninstalling
that program and see as to whether your problem is cured

I think it started before I started using Microsoft Anti-Spyware, which I
just started using a couple of days ago. But I will try your suggestion, and
see if it makes a difference. Thanks for the suggestion.

FWIW after installing Microsoft Anti-Spyware it did slow the shutdown by a
lot.
