For one, make sure that the network adapter which you are sharing is set to
"Private" in your Network and Sharing Center.

I think is it DNS issue. Can you ping a public IP for example, ping
chicagotech.net?

did you tried the wizard?
basically XP PC wil have a fixed IP, assigned by vista.

I have my XP PC and my xbox360 on a bridge connection, both share
internet connection from my Main vista PC

I searched for "reset winsock" and followed the procedures there (basically
said to "netsh winsock reset"). No apparent change. I also downloaded the
guided winsock repair utility. It said I should have 10 entries under the
network protocol list (in msinfo32) or 17 if I had IPX installed. I had 23
entries on that list. I told it to repair winsock and when it was done I
only had 2 left (which still isn't 10).

I have tried a few more things. I went to copy a number of files (in the
30-45mb each size range) from the XP system over to the Vista system via a
shared folder on the XP system (I believe I said that the Vista system could
now see the XP system). It took over a minute to calculate the size, then
proceeded to copy 3 files at about 128kb/sec and then froze. The time
remaining climbed up to 45000+ days and I cancelled out. I tried copying
each file separately and it works, but seems very slow (2-3 mins per file and
the progress bar moves in spurts). Although I'm succeeding at copying files,
it just doesn't seem right.

I pulled the internet cable off the Vista system and plugged it into the XP
system and rebooted. The internet worked perfectly fine and at full speed.

Does this give you any new ideas?

On another note, I'm considering wiping the XP system and reinstalling (it
would have to be XP again as I only own one copy of Vista and one copy of
XP). The downside to this is that I could go through that hassle and it
still not be resolved.

what wizard did you use? and I'm not sure what a 'bridge connection' is. I
