I am looking for an MVP who is willing to be my Remote Assistant partner.

Anyone...?

You've posted your telephone number on Usenet where it will be seen by
thousands of people until the heat death of the universe (or until
Google Groups stops archiving Usenet posts). Some of those people may
not Be Nice. I mention this to you for your own security, not to give
you a hard time. There's nothing you can do about it now but you can
remember not to do it again.

As for your request, it is possible that someone will be willing to help
you (not me since I do tech support for a living and my volunteer work
is here in the newsgroups), but unless you live in the Back Of Beyond a
better solution for you would be to have a local computer tech come
on-site and fix you up. Of course, that would not be free...

The alternative would be to clearly and concisely describe your problem
here in the newsgroup and get help that way. Here is a link that will
show you what details to include in your next newsgroup post:

What kind of issues are you having? We may be able to get you all fixed up
without Remote Assistance.

one such issue is this: I subscribed to the 90-day trial ms onecare package.
windows firewall periodically, and without warning, shuts itself off:
"windows firewall service is not running."

attempts to turn it on yield, "due to an unidentified problem, Windows
cannot display windows firewall settings"

it's set for automatic upgrade, and automatic upgrade appears to be
functioning normally. yet, in an attempt to kick it and get it running, I
attempted to *manually* upgrade; this yielded "Windows firewall was unable
to make the requested updates."

OneCare has its own firewall and will disable the built-in XP SP2
Windows Firewall. This is by design. OneCare, however, has one of the
lowest virus catch rates in the industry and is not recommended.
Instead, I recommend that you use NOD32, Kaspersky, or even Avast (free)
for your antivirus and the built-in Windows Firewall. There are
third-party firewalls if you want more control (and complexity) but if
you just want simplicity, use the Windows Firewall.
